Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Technical and vocational education and training constitutes an important and specific niche. It provides a direct link with the job market and contributes directly to individual well-being as well as to the economic development of a country. By definition, it involves the private sector in the development process.

We support technical and vocational education and training in many partner countries as a key strategy to address youth unemployment. Through skills training young people learn a skill or a trade that can help them to find decent work or start up their own business (entrepreneurship).

The rule of law, justice and security

We strengthen the rule of law, the justice system, security and the protection of human rights to achieve sustainable human development and to eradicate extreme poverty.

Gender

Promoting and protecting sexual and reproductive rights – including HIV response – are key to women’s empowerment and the well-being of households. We address these rights throughout our health, agriculture, education and other programmes and we involve men and local authorities in the process. Addressing the subject of family planning remains a challenge at the heart of the dialogue with our partners. Finally, we contribute to the fight against sexual violence with awareness-raising activities and the improvement of care given to victims.

Education and decision-making

The right to education is a prerequisite for creating economic, social and political opportunities. In our technical and vocational training programmes issues regarding access to education and continued school attendance of girls are systematically taken into account; and so is the creation of a safe and healthy environment that is conducive to learning and empowerment.
In addition, we address both women and men with our capacity development activities.

Food security and food sovereignty

The bulk of people living in poverty live in a rural environment. For women it is increasingly hard to obtain land (land and inheritance rights) or to access to markets and formation, even though they are key players in the production, processing and commercialisation of food. By ensuring equal access to land, inputs, technical training and business opportunities, we support their income-generating potential. Our agricultural programmes in particular work with women’s cooperatives help them to get more organised and to involve women in the management of the value chains (from production to sales).

Efficient, accountable and inclusive institutions

We support our partners in their reforms to foster efficient and stable institutions. We support civic commitment and the strengthening of State–citizen relationships to stimulate efficient and inclusive public action.

OUR PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS

fondationtuungane

Through a partnership with users groups and public operators, we contribute to the construction of infrastructure in view of improving the populations' access to drinking water. We increase production capacities, develop water distribution networks and improve water quality. As a consequence, water chores, which are usually carried out by women and young girls, become less time consuming.

We help the population to improve the local environment, mostly through awareness-raising activities and the installation of equipment (drainage of runoff, evacuation and treatment of waste water, latrines, etc.).
